The Exceptional Maple Bonsai

The Maple bonsai is another common bonsai tree. Learn some of the advantages and disadvantages of the Maple bonsai to help you decide if it's the right bonsai tree for you.

The maple bonsai has always been a favorite among people who love bonsai. There are two main species that are adopted for this purpose, and these are the Japanese Maple and the Trident Maple. The maple bonsai is a preferred species because they are hardy plants and can produce exceptional results fairly quickly.

What's So Special About the Maple Bonsai?

There are a lot of plants that are grown as bonsai. However, the maple bonsai is a favorite for many because they age quickly, shape easily and basically can be made into masterpieces in relatively short periods of time.

The Trident Maple, the most common among the maple bonsai trees, is highly tolerant to pollution. It can resist great abuse in terms on impure air and even lack of water since its roots capture and collect water for in preparation for dry periods. This is of great advantage in the summer. In winter, however, it can create a lot of problems. Since the roots capture so much moisture, the Trident Maple bonsai faces the danger of freezing at the roots during very cold weather. Therefore, this plant requires special care against frost and excessive cold.

The Japanese maple bonsai, on the other hand, is a more delicate species whose main advantage is that it grows a lot of branches. Hence, the tree becomes bushy and exceptionally showy. These trees, too, are resistant to pollution, but the best part is that they have leaves of different colors starting from the normal green to a deep red color which makes these plants a wonderful tool for creating exceptional bonsai plants. The only thing that the Japanese maple bonsai should be protected from is excess sunlight.

The maple bonsai are hardy plants. Because they are easy to shape and fast to mature, these plants are also great for beginners to test their hands at making bonsai. Another advantage is that these plants are tolerant to the mistakes that beginners often make, such as forgetting to water the plant, leaving it out in the sun, etc. These plants are also very resistant to pest attack which provides one less thing for the beginning bonsai enthusiast to worry about.

Overall, the maple bonsai is an exceptional plant to grow because it is unusually beautiful, highly resistant to most abuse, and fast maturing. All these factors help in growing a healthy and stunning bonsai plant that you can be proud of.
